The Story Behind the Art

“This painting was inspired by a special spot in my childhood community garden. I remember looking forward to the times my parents were late to pick me up from school so I could sprawl out in the grass, eating whatever was ready that day — even raw turnips or beets! The garden was mostly vegetables, except for one small patch: the strawberry patch. A woman from our church had planted them, and I’ll never forget how delicate and lovely they looked — tiny bursts of red tucked beneath wide, bright green leaves. They felt almost hidden, like little treasures waiting to be found.
In the same way, I want this piece to remind us mothers that even in seasons of deep loss, it’s okay to look for and hold on to small, beautiful moments. These little treasures of joy do not diminish the grief or the love we carry, but rather they give us strength to keep going.”
