Kathy Clum

Founder, CEO

In 2015, my world turned upside down when I lost my firstborn child, Jack, just two weeks after he was born. At first, I tried to run from the pain of death and everything that reminded me of it, but I soon found that didn’t work. Jesus was the only One who could bring life to the deep pain I felt inside.

The Bible verse that became my lifeline was Psalm 73:26: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart.”

  • As I walked through my own journey of grief and healing, I began to feel God leading me to help other moms walking this painfully hard road. I started by sharing what He had done in my life with anyone who would listen. I shared the raw pain, but I also shared the real hope I found in Jesus.

Over time, that calling grew into New Mercy Moms. What began as a personal burden to serve grieving mothers became a ministry devoted to offering biblical hope after child loss.

New Mercy Moms exists to give grieving moms what I needed, and still need: a reliable, biblically grounded place to find hope after loss. It is not about quick fixes. It is about real hope that comes only from Jesus.

You may notice the phrase Soli Deo Gloria in our blog posts, emails, and other resources. This old Latin phrase means for the glory of God alone. That is what New Mercy Moms is all about. We are for God’s glory and your good.

Elena Reymer

Vice President

My husband and I were married in July 2018, and we dreamed of having a home full of children. After struggling to conceive, we welcomed our first child in 2022.

We later experienced two miscarriages, one in 2023 and another in early 2025. During that second loss, I received a pregnancy loss care package from New Mercy Moms. It meant so much to know that others understood my pain and were praying for me through it.

  • I began volunteering with New Mercy Moms because I wanted other women to be comforted with the same comfort I had received from Christ, His Word, and His people. My hope is that every grieving mom who finds New Mercy Moms would feel seen, loved, and gently pointed to Jesus, our Healer, Sustainer, and Comforter.

Terra Peranteaux

Secretary

I know grief firsthand—from experiencing my own miscarriages to walking alongside a dear friend as she lost her newborn son. This road has deeply shaped my life and the way I walk through the world.

Being part of the New Mercy Moms team has given me a place to serve and love women and families walking through deep loss. I still wrestle with God in my own grief, yet I know His love is deep and unchanging.

  • My prayer is that each person touched by this ministry would find hope and healing in Jesus and know they are not alone.

Hannah Isbel

Assistant Secretary

Hi, I’m Hannah, and I serve as the Assistant Secretary with New Mercy Moms. Even before joining the NMM team, I cared deeply about sharing this ministry with other moms who have experienced the pain of child loss.

In the summer of 2025, I experienced my first miscarriage at the end of the first trimester, and then another miscarriage just five months later. Walking through these losses was excruciating.

  • While the Lord has blessed me with three other children, never getting to meet these precious babies left me feeling confused deeply sad, and unsure how to move forward in a life now marked by grief.

The Lord was so gracious to let me know about New Mercy Moms before going through my miscarriages. Reading the blog, listening to the counseling videos and podcasts, and receiving a care box have been a lifeline of hope. I am incredibly grateful for a resource that keeps pointing me back to Christ in one of the hardest experiences of my life.

As I write this, sitting in the rocking chair I bought with hopes of rocking my sweet babies, my eyes fill with tears. This chair, where I once imagined caring for them, has now become a place of lament, worship, and surrender. It is where I sit each day crying, praying, reading, and asking God for strength for the journey.

And every day, He is faithful. He gives just the strength needed for that day.

Psalm 23 has become especially precious to me: “He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” Many days, the waters do not feel still, and my soul does not feel restored. But even in grief, I have seen moments of still waters and a restored soul. I am deeply grateful to follow a Good Shepherd who leads us and cares for us in our darkest moments.

My prayer is that every grieving mother would feel that same love and care, and know that she has a Good Shepherd who is caring for her too.

Jalisa Winters

Care Box Director, Executive Assistant

Within the first few years of coming to God, my husband and I began facing a devastating reality marked by constant, deep, unrelenting grief. We longed for children, yet God said no. For nearly a year, I worshipped in vain. My lips drew near, but my heart was far from Him. I chose anger again and again. I wrestled constantly with God, begging Him to change the answer.

While that answer has not changed, God did not forget me. He did not let me go. He was the one who remained faithful.

  • Learning how to surrender my desire for children has not been a one-time act. It has become a daily prayer for His grace and mercy. Nothing in my life can be done apart from Him and His perfect love.

At New Mercy Moms, I serve by overseeing and packing Care Boxes, producing and maintaining the podcast, and supporting Kathy in the day-to-day of this ministry. My hope and prayer is that God would continue to use our efforts to help grieving mothers experience His nearness, His faithfulness, and His provision, even in the depths of their sorrow.

Michael Winters

Treasurer

Hi, I’m Michael. I help with the financial and administrative side of New Mercy Moms — making sure the behind-the-scenes details support the ministry God’s growing here. My background is in finance, but my heart is with those who are hurting.

I’ve walked through significant loss myself, and it’s changed the way I see people and pain. It’s what draws me to this community of women who understand what it means to grieve and still try to choose hope.

  • My desire is for every mom who connects with NMM to feel seen, cared for, and reminded that she’s not walking this road alone. I love knowing that even in the practical work, God uses it to help make space for mercy, healing, and connection.

the need

The statistics on child loss in the U.S. are both staggering and heart-wrenching. The annual number of babies and children who die in the United States:

  1. Miscarriages: Annually, there are about 900,000 to 1 million miscarriages in the U.S., with more than 500,000 of these occurring in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy.

  2. Infant Deaths: The total number of infant deaths in 2022 was 20,538. Additionally, there are about 3,400 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) each year in the U.S.

  3. Stillbirths: About 21,000 stillbirths were reported in the United States in 2020 and 2021.

  4. Child Deaths (Ages 1-14): For children aged 1-14 years, there were 9,791 in 2021.

  5. Teen Deaths (Ages 15-19): The number of deaths for adolescents aged 15–19 years was 13,407 in 2021.

Combining these statistics, we can estimate that each year in the United States, there are over 1,044,000 children from 0-19 yrs. old who’ve passed away.

Those numbers represent so many grieving mothers and families. Despite its frequency, the loss of a child — and the deep grief and pain that come with it — remain topics that are often hushed up, making the journey even more lonely for those who are suffering.

our mission

The statistics given above are precisely why New Mercy Moms exists: to help these grieving mothers who may not know where to turn or who to talk to, and to meet them right where they are with the hope in the Good News of Jesus.

Because no mom should have to walk through this dark valley alone, we provide Christ-centered resources that direct them back to the unwavering hope and healing that can only be found in Jesus.

Bible verses for those suffering the death of a child.

Our mission is clear — Create biblically grounded and theologically rich resources that address the needs of mothers who have experienced the death of a child, equipping them to find the hope and healing found in Jesus. We aim not only to support them in their journey but also to empower them to help others facing similar tragedies.

In short, we’re all about empowering mothers who have faced the death of a child to find their hope and healing in Jesus. We can’t find this hope and healing in a generic “faith” or in some vague “higher power.” We can find it only in Jesus Christ, who loves us (John 3:16), personally suffered hardship and loss (Isaiah 53:3), and has the power we don’t to provide healing and hope (Revelation 21:4). Through Him, we find the grace and grit to continue on.

our vision

In keeping with 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, the purpose and vision of New Mercy Moms is to provide caring, biblical help and healing to comfort, equip, and empower mothers grieving the death of a child.

Our vision impacts more than individual healing, recognizing that helping a mother strengthens a family, bolstering a community, and, ultimately, has the potential to change the world.

We are not just here to offer comforting words. We aim to be a light directing you straight to the Gospel, right where you are—in your questioning, in your grief, in your search for understanding.

statement of faith

  1. We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God. (Psalm 119:160; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1: 19-21; Revelation 22:18-19)

  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Colossians 1:16-18; 1 John 5:7)

  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Mark 14:62; 16:19; Acts 1:9-11; Acts 4:10-12, 5:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:25)

  4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. (John 3:16-18; Acts 16:31; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9, 10; 1 Corinthians 15:3.4; Ephesians 2:8, 9; 2 Peter 3:9)

  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (John 3:5-7; John 14:16-18, 26; John 16:7-8; Ephesians 1:13-14)

  6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5:6-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20-22)

  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:5-6)
